it’s time to wrap it up…the top 9 list

The Top 9 List (Goddess-style) of 2016

  1. Movie (Joy) starring Jennifer Lawrence, about the founder of the Miracle Mop and skinny velvet hanger, among other things. (The only movie I’ve ever watched and then immediately replayed)

Lesson: No matter how many setbacks life throws at you, your conviction for sharing your gift with the world wins out. Never give up.

  1. Sacred Success by Barbara Stanny

Lesson: When you make your decisions based on what supports your deepest, truest values, that is true success.

  1. Don’t Let Anything Dull your Sparkle by Doreen Virtue

Lesson: It’s safe to step away from anything that drains you-this is a loving act and it doesn’t mean you don’t care. Quite the opposite.

  1. Song (Rise) by Katy Perry

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdw1uKiTI5c

(I ended up dancing to this song over and over again in my living room!)

Lesson: It’s safe for you to be powerful and THRIVE, not just survive.

  1. Outrageous Openness by Tosha Silver

(This is one that I read all the time, and will flip to a page when I need a message from Spirit!)

Lesson: Life flows better when you get out of your own way.

  1. Song (Love on the Brain) by Rhianna (sooo beautiful, although to be honest, I wasn’t paying too much attention to the lyrics as much as the Motown vibe)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZQc5WGjUJU

Lesson: Love will make you do crazy things and is the most powerful force in the Universe.

  1. I am not your Guru (Netflix documentary) of Tony Robbins’ weekend seminar

(I watched this twice with my man!)

Lesson: Change can happen in an instant when you speak your Truth. Believing it has to take forever is an illusion to justify not being ready to take full responsibility for your life.

  1. Getting the Love You Want by Harville Hendrix

Lesson: We attract a partner who perfectly mirrors our unresolved childhood agendas and wounds so we can heal them and love from a fuller place.

  1. You are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Lesson: Loving yourself is always the answer. (I’d like to take her out to coffee in 2017 as I feel we would have much to discuss on this topic!)

the 3-word phrase for overcoming perfectionitis

It’s almost the Winter Solstice here in the States (Dec 21/22), the longest night of the year and for some of you across the pond, it is the Summer Solstice.

Darkness. Light. Can’t have one without the other!

It is a powerful time of percolating, going deep within and unearthing one final upheaval of “stuff”, you know the stuff that’s outdated, in your way and slowin’ your roll.

And one of those pesky behaviors that can stop you from making major waves towards your dreams is perfectionism.

Waiting until something is “just right” before you pitch your idea, write that book you keep saying you’re going to write, start dating again, you get the idea.

You may say things to yourself like..

“Yea, I so want that but I have to get XYZ figured out first in my life until I can have (insert fervent Soul desire).”

“I’m just not ready yet…I need to get (more credentials/more money/more blah, blah, blah)”

All perfectly rational explanations from the logical mind to mask the truth-that you might just feel scared of going all in and failing. Or succeeding and having to be seen more!

So it’s easier to wait until everything appears to be “perfect” before making waves.

The Universe

Only perfect never really comes.

And the Universe doesn’t care about perfect. 🙂

It just cares about supporting you in your predominant thoughts and deepest Truths.

It has no opinion either way and it’s not going to judge you.

So, instead of waiting for “perfect” to come, here’s a phrase I got from my friend and co-author of The Dating Mirror: Trust Again, Love Again, Maryellen Smith.

Go. For. Done.

It basically means, once you are clear what you want to do and have at least one action to take, just take it.

Give yourself permission to fu%* it up a little and also permission to course-correct if you’re going way off in the wrong direction.

But all that mental anxiety and low-level stress that is created from not taking action will give way to fresh ideas, inspiration and yes, self-confidence and self-trust.

You will figure it out in the act of doing it.

Making that call.

Writing that proposal.

Putting up that dating profile.

So, as we head into the darkest (or lightest) night of the year, I ask you this.

Q: Do you tend to get caught up in perfectionism? How does it show up for you….and if you’re brave, what is ONE action you are committed to taking before we ring the bell on Dec 31? Where will you “go for done?” I can’t wait to hear from you! Post your comment under here.

when your head is at war with your heart, do this..

screen-shot-2016-12-13-at-7-39-04-amI should want this, I remember saying to myself after I got a job offer from a non-profit years ago.

It was everything I said I wanted. Steady pay, a heart-centered mission and would help kids indirectly. I would use my writing skills, my organizational skills…it was consistent.

But everything in my body just felt… tight.

You should want this, Diana. This is a good opportunity my mind kept chiming in.

Have you ever had this happen to you, where your head and your heart are at war?

For days, I tortured myself with sleepless, fitful nights where I battled out pros and cons in my head, tried to justify that I would still make time for the things that really made my heart sing; you know the drill, right?

But something deep deep inside me told me that if I took that job, I really wouldn’t make time for my dreams. I would be doing it because of fear and risk-avoidance. Not because it truly lit up my creative juices and felt expansive.

I should want it. But I just really didn’t.

In the end, I listened to my body, turned the offer down with bated breath …and my life took on a completely different trajectory. I ended up going back to school to get my yoga teacher certification and life coaching certification, living in the desert and reconnecting with my mother. Not exactly the plan, but I was so happy.

When I followed my intuition, everything inside me breathed a sigh of relief because I was aligned and centered with my Soul.

Was it a risk? Yes!

Was it worth it? Yes!

But every time you turn down a “should,” you train your subconscious mind to receive an absolute-OMG-I-couldn’t-have-imagined-this-YES! Tweet that!

The first weekend seminar of coaching school, I landed my very first coaching client!

Could I have seen that that would happen? No way Jose!

But that’s an example of how the Universe can surprise us and open you up to a world of possibilities you couldn’t even see before…when you choose your Truth over your insecurities or fears.

Soul Q: Have you ever experienced a war between your head and your heart? What was the situation and how did you move through it? Share! (I promise to read every single one, although I cannot guarantee a reply!)

That’s one of the things we are going to explore in Self Care for Your Soul in 2017.

And if you know that you’re tired of making decisions based on what you should want vs. what you really really really want, the good news is that it’s possible.

It requires learning how to make aligned decisions that bring you closer to your Purpose.

It’s about learning how to stop capping your own spiritual potential to receive.

what you seek, seeks you too! an easy way to rev up your magic!

Did that subject line make you smile?

I hope so because it’s true!

It’s a New Moon in powerful, truth-telling, adventure-seeking Sagittarius and it is that time to pop the cork off your deepest desires that will lay the foundation for the next cycle of your life.

No pressure or anything.

And part of tapping into your desires, especially around relationships and love is TRUSTING and BELIEVING that what you are seeking…is also in fact, fervently seeking you too.

Spiritual tip-off: It’s about emanating the vibration of what you want as if you already HAVE it and even beyond that, tapping into the unmet need that it’s bringing up-usually like feeling not enough, not worthy, not special, etc.

But in order to actually get into that crazy, flowy awesome space, you’ve gotta help the Universe out a little!

The secret is easier than you think.

The answer?

Examples from my client files and personal experience (changed names to protect privacy):

To get in the feeling of more than enough, Sarah went to the mall and mentally “bought” anything she wanted in each of the stores she had been afraid to go in. According to her, “I felt like a silly idiot, but walked out of there feeling super filled up and confident and actually got an idea on the drive home for ways to rev up my income!”

To get in the feeling of being married to the love of her life, Anna went to David’s Bridal and tried on 3 dresses, even saying that she was engaged! She said, “I decided to be engaged to the Universe until Mr Right showed up and since they didn’t specify, it wasn’t a lie and I had so much fun for the first time in a long time!”

To get in the feeling of going to Italy on a solo trip (a long held dream!), I’d make Italian food (ok, I bought Italian food!) and went on Airbnb daily for three weeks. Within that time, it turned out that I had enough points saved on Continental since I was little to cover a round trip ticket. Then, I found a sweet room in Florence and I took off a month after that!

All of this comes from trusting that what you seek is already seeking you. And that if it’s a true Soul desire, it will be yours, but first you must act as if  you don’t “need” it. And you get something even more aligned and perfect than your head could see.

this first step to stepping into your brilliance is…

With the holidays upon us, you may be bombarded with invitations to gatherings, anxiety around hosting family from out of town or the opposite, maybe feeling lonely or conflicted about not having people around or familiar surroundings.

No matter where you find yourself as we wind down November, trust that you will get through it!

There may be things in your life that you wish were different. You may have heard yourself saying things like…

I should be married by now.

I should have more money in the bank.

I should be or have <fill in the blank>. What’s wrong with me? Why do other people have that and I don’t?

The key to move through these difficult thoughts and the emotions that accompany them is not, contrary to popular opinion….gratitude.

It’s something else.

It’s acceptance.

Accepting your reality just as it is right now. Not trying to escape it or live in the past. Or a future based on your fears.

I went to the Center for Spiritual Living this Sunday with my partner and the story shared was about the Reverend attending this workshop on grief and going over to this woman’s home for lunch afterwards. She had set three placemats and he was confused-who was this mysterious third guest?

She opened up to him and shared that it was for her late husband.

She said, “I even keep his dry cleaning on the same hook over there.”

And sure enough, he saw a 3 piece navy blue suit.

Well, at that moment he felt so stupid for asking or for not being more compassionate about this! After all, they had both just come from a workshop about grief!

They had a nice meal and the next day, he visited the friend who had led the workshop.

She said, “You know….she’s been coming to this workshop each time I offered it. It’s actually been 10 years since he passed..”

And his eyes got wide as he took this in. 10 years?

He went on to share with us the difference between allowing yourself to move through the stages of grief and clinging to it, draping ourselves in it because it’s too scary to consider that we aren’t the same person we were and that the event happened a long time ago.

While not the same scenario, this lesson relates to our thoughts that we hold close and the stories we tell ourselves.

Yes, maybe you aren’t married and you feel upset.

Yes, maybe when you look at your bank account, it’s not what you want it to be.

Yes, that all may be true. But does it change that you are whole and complete and beautiful just as you are in this very moment? That this is a temporary experience that you will emerge from?

Your power comes from acceptance about where you are and reminding yourself WHO  you really are-a Divine Being with infinite potential.

So back to you, Q: Where could you benefit from accepting something in your life and coming back to the present?  Are you willing to increase your compassion for yourself and stay open to what your intuition wants to share with you around it?
