Out of your comfort zone? Remember these lessons!

Have you ever been asked to do something you know you suck at?

Maybe it’s to lead a presentation on a topic you know very little about.

Or to talk to a bunch of people when you’d rather be behind your laptop.

Or to go on a blind date with someone your friend set you up with.

The Universe is sneaky sometimes, but always brilliant.

In order to get to the next level of your Soul’s journey (and being the person you’ve always dreamed of being, living the way you’ve always dreamed of living), you are usually asked to exit your comfort zone.

In a major way. Not just once. But over and over and over again.

And when that happens, you either step up to meet and be-friend that part of you that is scared or you thrash about and sabotage your success.

This could be in business, in love, heck, even in exercise habits!

Can I share a true story with you about moving out of your comfort zone + the intuitive guidance that came out from it?

My intention is that it helps you feel less alone during all the changes that you may be navigating right now in your life.

There’s also a short 3-part phrase that you can say aloud to yourself or silently whenever you are faced with a new situation. (I’m all about practical action!)

ps:…you’ll get to see a picture of me in a princess tiara…you’ll understand once you read the short story!

The Story:

One day, at dance camp….

This summer, I’ve been blissing out, teaching dance in a summer camp here in the desert and lo and behold I apparently volunteered to help decorate the center for the theme of the week: fairy tales.

I should preface this post by saying that glue guns scare me, anything involving fabric or loops or putting intricate pieces of cloth together with a needle just send me into irrational, helpless, frustrated Goddess land.

Give me the mic at karaoke and I’ll do it.

Want me to give a speech on the spot to 1000 people?

I’ll rock it out.

But anything involving the words ‘arts and crafts?’

Eeek!! I get so nervous and look for the exit door.

Lesson #1: The Universe is sneaky but brilliant. You have to risk being a novice to eventually be a rock star in your life.

It knows our weak spots. The things we hate doing because we’d rather do only the things we are awesome at than risk looking like a novice or an idiot (or both).

So when it came to my attention that in fact my partner in crime heading up fairy tale week would be supervising a field trip and would not be there,  I froze.

WTF?

How was I supposed to transform the space without a plan or even the faintest idea of where to begin? Was this all a bad dream?

If this was in my business, I would just simply delegate the unhappy task to my assistant or seek out expert advice from my coach.

But this was not that situation.

And the kids were counting on me to wake up Monday morning to a fairy tale wonderland.

I had less than four hours.

GO.

First idea: Google Disney princesses and make paper cut outs. Yay technology!

The printer didn’t do color.

Next idea: Get large poster boards and draw castles and wands and stuff. An odd sort of spastic creative progress.

I could only use 2 poster boards because they were needed for the art lesson. (I didn’t know I was supposed to bring supplies too!)

C.r.a.p

Lesson #2: There are no short-cuts when it comes to learning your Soul lessons. Get creative!

Despite my inner whining, I pulled out markers and crayons and watercolors.

Blank butcher paper stood before, looming and teasing me as if to say, “You are a dance teacher, do you even know what to do with me?”

I sat and taking a deep breath, I just kept saying, “Angels, help me now. I’m so scared. But, please, just help me do this.”

Long story short, I ended up using butcher paper and getting some assistance from a kind soul named *Annie and together we drew a massive dragon, Rapunzel and she had the brilliant idea to use crepe paper to drape down to be her “hair” to take up space on the sterile white walls.

By the end, there was a Princess Corner where I in fact, drew 3 of the Disney princesses (gulp!), a magic mirror and wand and also a life-size book of fairy tales, watercolored and covered in glitter for effect.

11390142_10205536979042663_7558478694864598540_n.jpg

Coming down to the wire, I also threw in Cinderella’s pumpkin, pulled a cut-out of an alligator (don’t ask me what that has to do with fairy tales) and pinned up a huge wad of sparkly blue fabric that the art teacher had kindly let me use to “billow” and make the walls pretty.

Umm, okay.

So I folded it as best I could, made it be water under the alligator and drew a sign that said, “Hey, what do you think happened to Captain Hook?”

I shocked myself and I had so much fun, despite groaning about how awful I thought everything looked.

Lesson #3: It’s never about ‘you.’ Offer it up!

When the executive director walked by, she said, “Love the colors!”

I said, “I have no idea what the heck I’m doing! I’m so sorry!” (Yet somehow I was doing it)

Painting. Drawing. Activating a part of me that I had not tapped into in a very very long time.

Her reply was brilliant.

She said, “You are using your creativity! If you’re being creative, the kids will feel that and want to be too. Just trust it and stop worrying already!”

Trust it.

My creativity.

What a heady concept.

And then it hit me.

I was focusing so much on how much more I had to do, on how much help I didn’t have, on all the negative things the kids would say about my fairy tale contribution that I forgot the whole point was to have fun! Once I did, it ended up getting done and I felt so much lighter and happier!

More lessons:

I learned that a huge part of being creative means we have to detach from it being about us.

All we have to do is simply show up as ourselves, contribute as best as we can and remember that it is truly not in our hands.

From the moment we create, we can offer it to an infinite Source.

Dedicate it to something bigger than ourselves.

Anything created from a pure heart has wings!

It’s not our job to focus on how it will be received.

That’s us trying to control and take ownership of something that simply wants to just flow through us.

Our job is simply to show up. To focus with a full heart and Soul. And to detach on some deeply cosmic level, trusting that what you put in will come back.

So the next time you end up in a situation where you feel like you’re a complete beginner or it’s out of your league, remember that all you have do is:

Let it go.

Trust yourself.

Stop worrying.

Just do the thing that you’re afraid of.

And repeat.

3-step Relationship Ritual to Call in the New

You may have heard of “the list.”

Make a list of the things you want in a man/woman and go to town trying to manifest.

That doesn’t always work and I want to share why and what you can do to make a list that actually helps you call in the new!

Maybe it’s a new love interest.

Maybe it’s a new friend.

Maybe it’s a new business partnership.

Regardless of what type of relationship you’re wanting to improve, this ritual works.

In this video you will learn:

  • The real reason why traditional “lists” don’t work (and make you believe that Law of Attraction stuff is a bunch of crap-o-la)
  • How your exes actually help you call in the new (you’ll learn a tangible To-Do to tweak that list once and for all…and no it doesn’t involve calling them!)
  • How to ramp up your energy and learn of an opportunity to use this Full Moon to your advantage if you choose!

After you watch, be sure to post a comment to the question below and check out this week-only Full Moon reading/healing invitation!

Summer Dating Tips Part 1

summer-wallpaper-hdSummer can be overwhelming and also fun, especially if you’re single.

There’s something about the sunshine that can heighten that desire to be close to someone special, to feel sexy and to play!

It’s the perfect time to get back in the swing of dating again, no matter how many times you’ve been hurt before.

So, for the next 3 weeks, I want to share 3 dating-specific tips that can you navigate the dating waters without wanting to run for cover.

These are tips that I’ve implemented and tested out with my clients and in my own dating life that resulted in me recovering from intense heartbreak and getting back on the horse, Goddess-style!

Dating…. Goddess Style Tip #1: Spread the love!

In short, date multiple people at one time.

Pack your schedule with dates without attachment.

This one sounds so very simple but it can be hard if you just came out of a relationship and are generally a one-woman, one-man kind of Soul.

When you go out with different people in a short amount of time, there are several important benefits:

  1. You avoid pouring all your emotional energy into one person that quite frankly, hasn’t yet earned your trust and heart yet! You just met them!
  2. Even if you feel a strong connection on one date with a certain person, there’s always more to uncover about their intentions and non-negotiables before you get emotionally (and physically) invested.
  3. You get to “try on” your energy with theirs! It’s like trying on a dress. It may be Gucci but no matter which way you put it on, it may never hug your hips the right way and that’s fine! Next!

A true tale of 4 men

One woman I know had scheduled 4 dates with 4 different men in one week to test this theory out.

She had a blast going out to dinner, coffees, ice cream and even mini golf.

Some she had a nice connection with. Others bored her to tears but she simply went to experience herself with someone new.

She was dating Goddess style.

The result?

Now she’s dating one of the four who got tired of competing for her time and attention and he treats her like a Goddess as he should!

And she even got a text from one of the other men saying, “If it doesn’t work out with this guy you’re committing to, please call me. You’re awesome!”

(Who wouldn’t love to receive that?!)

*Note: I get asked by women all the time,

Q: “Isn’t that MEAN to date multiple people? I feel guilty for dating more than one man at a time.”

My blunt-big sister-meets wingwoman answer to them?

1) Men do it all the time. It’s not mean. It just is. Stop assigning meaning to everything!

2) I said DATE, not have sex with multiple people at once. As in…simply go out and experience their energy with yours in a no-pressure setting. See if you like who you become when you’re with them and what they spark in you! It’s an experiment not an iron-clad contract.

3) Wouldn’t you feel better knowing that if you didn’t vibe with one person, you knew you had a date with someone totally different who thinks you’re attractive the next day?

There is power in numbers, Goddess.

Q: Have you ever dated multiple people at once? What has your experience been like? Any tips? Share with us in the comments!

This week’s dating challenge: Spread the love, schedule the love!

This week, see if you can fill up your calendar with at least TWO dates over the next 2 weeks. Some quick ideas for you: Ask your friends to set you up. Go on a blind date that your co-worker keeps mentioning. Flirt  with the cashier at the checkout counter (more on that later if you’re looking at me like I just said something totally inappropriate and crazy) Join a free dating site like OkCupid.com. Again, this is an experiment. The worst you can do is NOTHING. What have you got to lose?

my fav mercury retro* story (it changed my life)

Mercury Retrograde.

A time when computers crash, road rage can abound and miscommunications manifest out of nowhere.

I used to dread the inevitable slow down of this time and if you’re reading this, you’re probably super sensitive to energy and have been feeling it maybe a few days before it happened.

That email never got sent.

The address you wrote down was wrong by 1 number.

Your ex comes back and wants another shot and throw your hands up at the sky and think WTF is going on?

I thought I dealt with that crap already.

But I’ve now come to appreciate the snail pace and test on my patience level.

Whenever I get the urge to flip out, I try and remember this story I’m about to share with you that was very Mercury Retro-esque that literally changed the course my life.

It all started in my kitchen in Oakland when I was contemplating my path and what the heck to do.

Nothing felt certain and I had never felt so alone in my life.

My boyfriend and I had broken up, I didn’t know how I was going to pay rent that month and I had just come out of the ER with a mounting bill for scans that I didn’t even need.

I was raw.

So I did what any normal person would.

I decided to go on Facebook.

Only my browser kept freezing.

And I got the rainbow spinning wheel of death on my Mac.

I wanted to cry.

Just let me have my damn distraction!

Then finally a breakthrough came.

The wheel stopped and I saw the facebook logo at the top.

Yes.

thank. you. dear Lord.

And then something weird happened.

It never went to Facebook.

It skipped Facebook.

And opened up a browser for a college in Arizona.

W.T.F?

I tried to reload, but it wasn’t having it.

It was called Southwest Institute of Healing Arts.

The last thing I wanted to do was go back to school.

Was this a joke?

But my intuition started kicking in.

My tummy got all hot.

And I started getting Angel goosebumps up and down my body.

The message I kept getting?

“Call them.”

I didn’t want to call them.

But what the heck else was I going to do?

So the next thing I know I’m speaking with a woman who tells me that they have a program for coaching certification and yoga and all sorts of wonderful metaphysical classes.

She said that I was in the system as having an Americorp award for pretty much the amount of yearly tuition for not one but both programs. (I had done Teach for America years before and for some reason, this school accepted those service funds I had totally forgotten about because I was dead set against going to grad school.)

And that it expired in a year.

Was I interested in coming out for a visit to the desert?

What?!!

To make a long story longer, in short I left California, my entire practice that I’d built up to go to school and build a new life for myself. I got my coaching certification and yoga teaching certification fully paid for and I had my first clients within the first weekend of starting my new life.

Nothing is an accident.

All from a frozen computer screen during the Retrograde.

So, pay attention to what your intuition is telling you right now.

You never know where it could lead you.

Or how life can surprise you!

you have to let go of good if you want great

Have you ever known that it was TIME to let go of something that was “just okay” so you could make space for something amazing?

I recently had a session with someone who was letting go of a man who she’d had an on and off again relationship with.

They had both been playing cat and mouse for over 3 years and when we went to do the karmic cord cutting (a powerful energy release I do with my private clients), tears rolled down her face as she felt his presence in the room. “My whole body is vibrating!” she said, looking at me with wide eyes.

She got to share with him all the things she’d been too proud to say when they were face to face. To start the letting go process…for real.

And the next day (full moon) she texted me to let me know that she just wanted to go to a park and just be with herself…and sift through all the emotions that came up instead of going to a party.

“I never do that!” she laughed.

She cried. She laughed. She raged. But she had freed herself. She was starting to accept that she had always held the keys to her freedom. It wasn’t with this guy. That’s real power.

But her take-away? She was done settling for just okay. She was ready for great.

And in order for great to arrive, we have to be willing to let go of the crumbs. To let go of just “good enough.”

It’s not gonna cut it anymore Goddess!

The real secret: shhhh

And to be open to GREAT, you have to learn to tolerate and accept the space. The void. The discomfort.

You have to be strong.

It’s so easy to try and fill that space that that person, job, or habit left, but you want exceptional right?

Mindblowing, OMG-this-is-my-life amazing, right?

Then you’re going to have to be able to sit with yourself in the discomfort for awhile without rushing to replace it.

Does it hurt or suck sometimes?

Yes.

Is it easy?

Hell no!

But it’s what it takes.

A firm will to say “I will only accept the best. I’m done with crumbs.”

The Universe will test you.

You may think you’ve screwed up when that person comes back or you encounter a similar situation as before.

No no no sister.

It’s just the Universe testing your resolve to GREAT.

Be strong.

You’ve got this.

Q: Where have you been settling for “just okay or good? What does AMAZING or great look like? Brave souls, share with us in the comments! There is power in your words. Just by sharing it you are already putting it out there that you deserve more. Because you do.
