How to Trust Divine Timing When Life Doesn’t Go According to Plan
Have you ever been absolutely convinced something was meant for you, only to have it completely fall apart?
You did the work and prepared.
You followed the signs.
And then…nothing.
And then…nothing.
No response.
No opportunity.
No open door.
It’s easy in those moments to wonder if you’ve done something wrong or if the Universe is somehow working against you.
I’ve certainly been there.

Recently, I found myself reflecting on a few experiences that made absolutely no sense at the time but make perfect sense now.
One memory that came rushing back was from my mid-twenties.
I had found what seemed like the perfect freelance editing and writing position. Applicants were required to complete an editing test that involved catching typos, improving wording, and making recommendations.
This was my wheelhouse.
At the time, I was a credentialed high school English teacher and freelance writer. I remember submitting my application and feeling confident I’d done a great job.
Then…
Nothing.
Days passed.
Then weeks.
I sent follow-up emails.
Some bounced back.
Others disappeared into the void.
I was confused and frustrated. What was the point of putting myself out there if no one was even going to respond?
Almost a month later, after I’d completely let it go, an email appeared in my inbox.
Apparently their server had gone down. Some applications had disappeared. Mine had somehow resurfaced.
Would I be available for an interview?
Absolutely.
When I arrived, I quickly realized I had missed an important memo.
There I was in white pants, a colorful blouse, and sandals. Very teacher.
Everyone else was dressed in gray and black business suits. Ooops.
I stood out.
And somehow, I got the job.
Then there was the acting audition. Ironicially for the feature film I just recently told you about!
When I got that audition request from my agent, the timing couldn’t have been worse.
I was getting over a sinus infection and barely had a voice.
My eyes were puffy and my energy was low.
I sounded like I’d been smoking for twenty years.
But I submitted anyway.
I later learned they had already cast someone else.
Case closed, right?
Apparently not.
The other actor didn’t work out.
I got the call.
The role was mine if I wanted it. Could I be memorized and on set in 10 days?
I still remember getting that email and laughing at the hilarity of it all.
Life has a funny way of reminding us that we’re not always seeing the whole picture.
Sometimes the door isn’t locked.
Sometimes it’s simply not time yet.
Sometimes another piece has to move first.
Sometimes what feels like rejection is actually a redirection.
And sometimes what appears to be a frustrating delay is creating the exact circumstances needed for you to walk through the right door at the right moment.
I’ve learned that when a door is truly meant for you, there is often a sense of flow.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be effort.
It doesn’t mean there won’t be challenges.
But there is a difference between taking aligned action and trying to force something that simply isn’t ready.
When I look back on some of the most important opportunities in my life, many of them arrived in ways I never could have planned.
Not on my timeline.
Not through the path I expected.
But exactly when they needed to.
So if you’re waiting for an answer right now…
If a door feels stubbornly closed…
If you’re questioning whether you’ve missed your chance…
Take a breath.
You may be much closer than you think.
The Universe is rarely late.
It’s simply working with information we can’t always see yet.
