The Reason You Don’t Trust Yourself Has Nothing to Do With Your Intuition

There was a time when I believed I needed one more sign.

One more reading.

One more conversation with a trusted friend.

One more Google search.

I wasn’t looking for information. I was looking for permission.

Permission to choose what I already knew in my heart.

The funny thing is, my intuition was never missing.

It was quietly waiting beneath all the noise.

Maybe you know this feeling too.

You feel something deep inside. A relationship no longer fits. A new opportunity calls your name. Your body is asking for rest. Your soul longs for a different rhythm.

But before you honor what you know, you ask everyone else what they think.

You gather opinions.

You make pros and cons lists.

You wait for the universe to send an unmistakable billboard across the sky.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that everyone else’s wisdom was more trustworthy than our own.

We became experts at reading the room while forgetting how to read ourselves.

Your Intuition Isn’t Broken

I hear women say all the time, “I don’t trust my intuition.”

But what if that isn’t actually true?

What if your intuition has been speaking to you all along?

Maybe you’ve simply stopped believing you’re allowed to listen.

Our intuition rarely shouts.

It whispers.

It’s the gentle nudge that doesn’t always make logical sense.

It’s the heaviness in your body when something isn’t aligned.

It’s the unexpected feeling of peace when you imagine a different path.

The challenge isn’t hearing your intuition.

The challenge is believing it’s enough.

The Cost of Waiting for Permission

Every time we ignore what we know to be true, we send ourselves a subtle message:

“I don’t trust myself.”

At first, it seems harmless.

But over time, those moments add up.

We become disconnected from our own inner knowing.

We second-guess decisions that once felt clear.

We confuse anxiety with intuition and intuition with fear.

Eventually, we stop asking ourselves what we want because we’ve become so accustomed to asking everyone else.

And that’s exhausting.

Trust Doesn’t Mean You Won’t Feel Fear

One of the biggest misconceptions about self-trust is believing that confident women never feel uncertain.

That’s simply not true.

Self-trust isn’t the absence of fear.

It’s the willingness to move with yourself, even when fear is sitting beside you.

I’ve made decisions that scared me.

Some worked beautifully.

Others became lessons I never would have learned any other way.

But every single decision strengthened something far more valuable than certainty.

It strengthened my relationship with myself.

Because even when life surprised me, I discovered something important.

I could trust myself to handle what came next.

A Different Question

The next time you find yourself asking everyone else what you should do, pause.

Place one hand on your heart.

Take a slow breath.

Instead of asking,

“What should I do?”

Try asking,

“What already feels true?”

Don’t rush to answer.

Don’t force clarity.

Simply listen.

Often, the first answer is surprisingly gentle.

It’s been waiting patiently beneath the overthinking.

Self-Trust Is Built One Choice at a Time

We tend to think trust arrives all at once.

It doesn’t.

It’s built in tiny moments.

Choosing rest when your body asks for it.

Speaking honestly when it’s uncomfortable.

Saying no without creating ten excuses.

Following a dream before you know exactly how it will unfold.

Every time you honor your inner knowing, your nervous system begins to learn something new.

“I am safe with myself.”

That quiet relationship becomes stronger.

Decision by decision.

Breath by breath.

Choice by choice.

A Diary Reflection

Lately, I’ve been asking myself a simple question.

Where am I asking for permission when I’m really longing to trust myself?

The answers haven’t always been dramatic.

Sometimes they’ve been beautifully ordinary.

Trusting myself to rest.

Trusting myself to change my mind.

Trusting myself to disappoint someone else without abandoning myself.

Those little moments have become some of the biggest acts of self-love.

Because every time I choose myself with compassion, I remember something I almost forgot.

The wisdom I’ve been searching for has been living within me all along.

Maybe yours has been waiting there too.

Journal Prompt

Take a few quiet moments today and ask yourself:

Where in my life am I asking for permission when I’m really longing to trust myself?

Don’t look for the perfect answer.

Just notice what rises.

Your intuition has likely been whispering to you for much longer than you realize.

The question isn’t whether it’s speaking.

The question is whether you’re ready to listen.
